Our help serves only to make people more dependent unless it is supported with actions designed to wipe out the actual roots of poverty. In a 'totally gone world', an exploiter is better than a Santa Claus, an exploiter forces you to react, whereas a Santa Claus demobilizes you.

It is at the grass roots level that gestures of solidarity are really noticed and appreciated. A simple smile can have as much value as all the dollars in the world.
